Diane Everitt Counselling

Working in Sonning rg4 and online

Welcome

Diane Everitt
Integrative Counsellor/psychotherapist mbacp

I offer online and face to face counselling for adults and young people (13+) for a wide range of issues.

There are  no rules on what to bring to counselling.  If something is having a negative impact on how you feel or live your life, then its important and worth talking about.

I offer a safe, confidential space to express your concerns, free of judgement and full of kindness.

We'll work together and at your own pace to explore the topics and events that are important to you.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I believe there is not one therapeutic approach that suits all clients in all situations.   I take into account your unique experiences and circumstances and use elements of different approaches to help you work through problems and empower you to live life the way you want to.

I will adapt my approach to meet your needs.

My aim is to help clients express themselves fully and discover who they truly are.

Areas of special interest

Teenagers and carers

For the past year, I have been working with young people who are experiencing various challenges effecting their mental health and adults who care for and support young people. Counselling can be a powerful tool for both teenagers and their supporters.  For young people, it can provide a safe space to explore their feelings, develop coping strategies, and build resilience.  For adult caregivers and professionals, it can offer support in managing their own stress and understanding how best to help the young people in their lives.

Narcissistic Abuse

I have experience in, and a special interest in working with victims of narcissistic abuse.  The emotional turmoil and isolation that often comes with this type of trauma can be incredibly challenging and confusing.  Having a supportive professional to turn to can make a profound difference in understanding and healing from what you've been through.   The emotional and psychological impact of narcissistic abuse can be deeply damaging, and my approach aims to help rebuild confidence and self esteem in my clients.

I'm passionate about helping those that have experienced or are experiencing narcissistic abuse to pave a way forwards that is not dominated by their abuser.  Whether that's a parent, romantic partner, work colleague or 'friend',  I offer a space to be heard, understood and to heal.

Addiction

There are many forms of addiction - alcohol, sex, gambling, shopping.  The list goes on and on.  In therapy we'll work to understanding where your addiction has originated from and discover healthier ways to experience a sense of connection.  Those suffering with addiction are often stigmatised and can feel a deep sense of shame. This can worsen self esteem and perpetuate the cycle of addiction.  I offer a confidential space to talk openly and honestly, free of judgement, and where the possible relapse is not met with disappointment or anger, but with kindness and curiosity.  By focusing on understanding, and support, I aim to address the root of many challenges faced by those struggling with addiction and guide you to recovery.  I am committed to helping individuals connect with themselves and society in healthier ways and breaking the cycle of shame and self-destructive behaviour, prioritising long-term growth and healing.

Complex Post traumatic Stress (CPtsd)

Sometimes you may find yourself  reacting to things in a way you are not proud of.   you may feel an urgency to take action, feel terrified when logically you know you are safe, or become angry with someone and say something you later regret.  Sometimes this is simply because you're tired, hungry or are having a bad day.  But sometimes its because you're being triggered.  Something about what's going on in the present is reminding your subconscious of a situation or events from the past which were emotionally or physically traumatising.  This causes the nervous system to respond accordingly by going into  flight/fright/freeze or fawn- its doing the natural healthy thing of trying to keep you safe.  Understanding when and why this is happening is the first step to living a life in which you feel in control and are able to respond to situations in an informed and healthy way.   making these connections and coming to terms with your past can be difficult and sometimes painful, but it can also clear the path to a brighter future where you are able to feel calm and experience joy in the present.

Perimenopause

This can be an incredibly challenging time in a woman's life.  The physical and mental symptom's seem to be endless and GP's are not always compassionate or well informed.  The intense impact it can have on a woman's life is often disregarded and woman are left to struggle on alone.

Perimenopause is different for everyone.  Its a time of change and transition and can be difficult to navigate alone.  Having someone to talk to honestly about what you're going through can help alleviate anxiety and get you back in control of your own life.
